WHATS DRIFTING? WHATS FORMULA 1 RACING? Whats nascar? Hell who knows whos dating one of the nicole from the pussycat dolls? Non other then 2 time f1 world champion Lewis hamiltion!

My question is why over seas,  peple learn how to drive at a young age? How come we don’t even consider auto racing a real “sport”. we don’t look at car racing as a form of being in the sport field. People only think that throwing a ball means Tons of ppl don’t consider car racing to be a sport, But over the last couple years with the help of ken block and other race car drivers coming out in the fore front.

People have the wrong idea about auto racing. It takes a lot of skill & time to be able to become a world champion.  We wonder why we have the worst drivers here in the united states. People don’t take driving here seriously. People drive drunk, race on the street and many ppl die everyday just for them taking advantage of the road.

A recent insurance company ad on television related that an accident occurs every six seconds in the U.S. If that's correct, it translates into roughly five and a quarter million auto accidents per year. A national insurance company (which this was) probably has it's paws on some accurate statistics. And the number is going to include everything from a minor fender bender to a shredding head on crash.

Lets take some calls, Why do u feel ur a safe driver and whats one thing that drives u nuts about other drivers here on the road.

The underliying problem is we don’t acknolege that driving is a big deal, and if ppl took the time to send there children to race car school & teach them from a younger age. WE CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERCE.

Homeless vs. Democrazy Now!

NYC has a problem, a real problem, something that in my opinion can be completely avoidable. Homelessness. The homeless take shelter on many steps, benches and alley ways of the city that never sleeps. They hurry to shelters to get whatever resources they can. The homeless live a life that is rather inhumane, and saddens me to observe. Often times, as I pass a homeless man or woman I wonder “Why is it that in one of the wealthiest cities in the world we have a problem with people that are homeless? I’ve followed this problem on two differnt news sources, Democracynow.com and wnyc.org answers to our problem. According to Democracynow.com” New York Homelessness Soars 34%” and there is no given reason to why. They only write about the problem and not what can be done to fix it, as I feel many news stories and documentaries do.  Cindy Rodriguez a writer from wnyc.org says “The Mayor's Management Report shows evidence of the down economy. More people are homeless, on welfare, and getting food stamps”. Well in my opinion, these articles are in no way wrong; they both reflect the unfortunate statistics associated with homelessness. However, that is exactly the problem, they only reflect the STATISTICS. As many news sources do, they address such pressing issues with numbers. But numbers don’t tell a story, help one feel empathy, and reflect the fact that behind these numbers are people, just like you and me. I feel that until these news sources change their approach to addressing and delivering information on the homeless, this cycle will only refresh.

The old man and the storm.

       In 2005 after Hurricane Katrina, documentary film maker Lisa Payton set out after the aftermath to collect some footage. While walking through the “lower ninth ward” a particularly devastated and underprivileged area, Payton met Herbert Gertridge, an 82-year old man living in New Orleans. Payton was immediately drawn to Gertridge, and he soon became the muse of much of her work. Her documentary shifted towards following Gertridge as he struggled to get government support to help get him through his loss...

 Herbert had a hard time leaving his home due to the fact that has lived in that home for over 50 years. He lived with no electricity or running water but that did not stop this man to fix the place that he called home. Gertridge’s tale is sadly all too common, and the documentary is truly symbolic of this New Orleans was completely destroyed & the city had to displace 500,000 people during the reconstruction.

I have to admit, living in New York, the variety of cars on the road is intriguing. Being a huge car freak, I pay close attention to a lot of cars on the road, and with everything going on in the news, epically Toyota’s. For the last couple months Toyota motor company has been going through a lot of troubles with their vehicles. This got me thinking; do students here at Suny old Westbury know what’s going on with their cars?  So on a nice Monday I walked around the parking lot asking students who drove Toyota’s if they knew if their car was a candidate for the massive recall. Upon speaking to Krista Gotcliffe, a student from Stony Brook University and a driver of a 2009 Toyota corolla, she had no idea of the recall and when she found out she said, “I never heard of any recalls, but my father always takes care of my car”. This is a major problem cause the Toyota corolla is known to have the sticking accelerator -pedal problem. Driving is a privilege, but if you don’t keep in contact with your car manufacture, you may end up wondering why you car just keeps on accelerating.  Below is a list of the vehicles that are under recall.

It’s only a matter of time where more people lose their lives because there not educated. Toyota is currently taking multiple approaches towards informing the public. Aside from the fact that this is a highly publicized recall, Toyota is keeping and updated recall list, complete with specifications, on their website and is available for viewing by the public.

How Toyota became the #1 Problem.....

How did Toyota become #1, Well that’s according to David Magee, But for the last couple months Toyota has been at fault with well over 2 million cars being recalled. We can just thank chapter 9 “take time to study, then implement with speed.” Ya speed is great, But when you’re producing a car that won’t stop… That’s a problem. On top of their gas pedal recall, Toyota is recalling all 2010 prius’s due to break failure.  I’ve read 3 different news sources and among all sources the general consensus seems to suggest that Toyota's is going to have a long road ahead of them before they can regain their seemingly solid reputation. The Three newspapers sources I enlisted in this story really seem to convey there message in an informative matter directed towards consumers or perspective buyers of a Toyota prius. Unlike other types of articles that tend to sway in a certain direction and incorporate a bias. These articles really swapped-out there opinion for objectivity. After all, there not there to sell the car or help out the competition, only to inform consumers. While these publications opted out of enlisting there bias, one can still express their own perception and feelings on the issue. In my opinion, One has to question just how truly surprising this was to Toyota. In order to be a #1 company, that company has to have its eyes and ears on every aspect from production to advertising. If done properly, this should leave little room for mistakes…In theory, but in practice Toyota seems to fail. Even after these  events’s Toyota’s CEO, Akio Toyoda expresses his deepest apologizes for the safety problems, Then drives away in a black AUDI!!
